We learned of David from the book “Drawing Autism,” edited by Jill Mullen. Mullen is a clinical therapist who wanted to showcase the talent of those on the spectrum. In an email to Mullen, David’s mother wrote:
…it’s not hard to guess what’s keeping him busy right now. There are almost 400 birds on [this drawing] and he knows the names and Latin names of most of them.
David created “Vogels” when he was 10, in 2008. We’re trying to find out what he’s creating these days. Meanwhile, Drawing Autism was reprinted on April 2nd, and includes an introduction by Temple Grandin. You can learn more about it here.
